University of Nairobi Engages Shelter Afrique Development Bank on Strategic Partnership for Affordable Housing Innovation

The University of Nairobi, Faculty of Built Environment and Design, held a strategic partnership meeting with Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025 at Shelter Afrique Headquarters. The meeting brought together representatives from both institutions to explore collaboration opportunities aimed at strengthening research, innovation, and technical capacity in the affordable housing sector.

The University of Nairobi Hosts Strategic Engagement with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the African Real Estate Society (AfRES)

The Department of Real Estate, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying held a high-level meeting on Wednesday, 26th, with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The session was chaired by Professor K’Akumu, the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment, and brought together key stakeholders committed to strengthening professional standards and academic excellence within the built environment disciplines.

UoN Explores Collaboration with GTC to Enhance Student Opportunities

The Chairman of the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management, and Quantity Surveying at the University of Nairobi, Arch. Peter Njeru, led a team of staff members and students in a strategic meeting with representatives from GTC in Westlands. The discussions centered on fostering collaboration, with a focus on securing internship placements, industry linkages, and hands-on training opportunities for students pursuing careers in real estate, construction, and quantity surveying.

The First Cohort of ‘Design for Greater Efficiency’ course Graduates!

The Department congratulates the first cohort of 66 talented graduates of the 'Design for Greater Efficiency' (DfGE) course, organized by IFC and trained by the department’s members of staff. The students recently received their well-deserved certificates on 28th May 2024 after dedicating two months to the intense training. The colorful graduation took place at the marvelous Executive Residency by Best Western in Riverside, Nairobi.

Department wins Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Grant

Through the Erasmus+ staff mobility program, the Chairman, Arch. Peter Njeru, travelled to the host institution, Klaipėdos Valstybinė Kolegija (KVK), in Klaipeda, Lithuania. During the nearly two-week visit to the Baltics, which included visiting Latvia and Poland, Arch. Njeru participated in the KVK 20th International Week and BIP Professional Development program. The event attracted 43 participants from 30 institutions of higher learning, with the University of Nairobi being the only university represented from the African continent.

Department hosts Real Estate Career Talk with Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK)

On April 17th, 2024, the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya, in partnership with the Construction & Real Estate Students Association (CRESA) and the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management & Quantity Surveying (RECMQS) Department, hosted a compelling Real Estate career talk at University of Nairobi (UoN).

The Department tours the Global Trade Centre (GTC) Towers.

On April 12th, 2024, a team from the Department of Real Estate Construction Management and Quantity Survey had the opportunity to tour the Global Trade Centre (GTC) Towers. The faculty members, Mr. Nzioki and Mrs. Kariuki, and students Bwana Bill Onyango, Diana Korir, and Esther Kamabe were accompanied by Professor Viruly of the University of Cape Town in preparation for his public lecture that afternoon.
