On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, staff and students from the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management, and Quantity Surveying (RECQMS) partnered with Kenya Commercial Bank-University Way Branch to plant 500 trees at the University of Nairobi (UoN) grounds. This initiative is part of the department's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.

The tree-planting event was an interactive session that brought together staff and students led by the Chairman of the Department, Arch. Peter Njeru, Arch. Nicky Nzioki, and  Assistant Registrar Mr. Francis Kivindu and representatives from KCB. Participants learned about the importance of trees in the environment and how to properly plant and care for them.

Tree planting

This year's tree planting event marks the second such initiative undertaken by the RECQMS department. Earlier this year, the department planted an additional 500 trees, bringing the total number of trees planted by the department to approximately 1,000.

The RECQMS department is committed to continuing its efforts to promote environmental sustainability. The department is currently developing a plan to plant an additional 1,000 trees every year for the next five years.

The department's commitment to environmental sustainability is aligned with the university's overall sustainability goals. The UoN is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, promoting sustainable practices, and creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for its students and staff.

The tree planting event was a success and is an important step towards achieving the RECQMS department's goal of creating a more sustainable future. The department is grateful to KCB for its partnership in this initiative.
