Overview
Philosophy
The Master of Arts degree programme in Construction Management is designed to prepare students to meet these challenges. Students will be equipped with skills and knowledge to enable them manage construction projects or construction processes or constructed facilities more efficiently.
Rationale
The programme is suitable for professionals such as Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Engineers, Valuers and Estate Managers, especially those who wish to advance their skills in the discipline of Construction Management . The programme encompasses both theory and practice applied to challenges and practical problems of construction projects and the construction industry in general.
Objectives
The programme’s objectives are to:-
- Expose the students to relevant advanced theories in construction project management,
- Equip the students to with enhanced skills for conceptualization and problem solving techniques that meet the challenges of construction project and industry.
Schedule of Intakes
The Department admits new students at the beginning of every academic calendar year (which is usually September)

Mode of Delivery
- Face-to-Face Mode
This is through lectures and tutorials using notes, electronic presentations, instruction manuals, group discussions, practical laboratory demonstrations and fieldwork.
- Open, Distance Learning and e-Learning
In case of delivery through ODeL, special arrangements shall be made for the practical laboratory, field work and computing sessions. Where not feasible alternative arrangements will be made to do them on campus.
- Blended Learning
This is a hybrid of face to face with Open, Distance Learning and e-learning.

Structure
The study programme shall consist of lectures, coursework, seminars, practicals, written examination and a project.
Each course unit shall comprise forty five contact hours.
The programme shall be covered in a minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of 15 semesters of 15 weeks each.
In each semester, students shall be allowed to take a minimum of two (2) course units and a maximum of six (6) course units.

Admission Requirements
- Minimum Admission Requirements
Applicants with the following qualifications will be eligible for consideration for admission into the degree programme as per the Faculty of the Built Environment and Design guidelinesThe common regulations governing the master’s degree in all Schools/Faculties of the University of Nairobi shall apply.

- Holders of at least an Upper Second-Class Honours Degree in Building Economics, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Land Economics from the University of Nairobi or equivalent qualification from a university recognized by Senate.
- Holders of at least a Lower Second Class Honours Degree in any of the disciplines specified in 3.1.2, with a relevant postgraduate diploma or relevant publications or other equivalent qualifications or at least two years relevant work experience
