The Construction and Real Estate Students  Association (CRESA), in collaboration with the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management, and Quantity Survey (RECMQS), recently hosted a distinguished guest, Professor Francois Viruly from the University of Cape Town.

Professor Viruly, a property economist with over 20 years of experience, offered valuable insights on Urban Land Economics, Property Finance, and Portfolio Management. His visit to the Faculty of Built Environment and Design on Friday, April 12th, 2024, included a tour of the ongoing Global Trade Centre (GTC) development alongside the CRESA Council and RECMQS members of staff.

The highlight of the visit was a captivating public lecture delivered at the University of Nairobi's Faculty of Built Environment and Design. Professor Viruly used the STEEP analysis model (Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, and Political) to shed light on the complex forces shaping the future of real estate markets. This framework provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the multifaceted dynamics at play.

Professor Viruly also emphasized the importance of specialization for professionals in the real estate and construction industries. He stressed that developing expertise within a specific sector fosters stronger networks, a critical asset in these fields. His advice served as a springboard for deeper reflection and engagement with the evolving landscape of aspiring professionals.
