Overview
Introduction
The degree programme in Bachelor of Real Estate (BRE) was introduced in 2009 to replace the Bachelor of Arts in Land Economics which had had been offered since 1967. The curriculum review was in response to the changing trends in the real estate industry and allowed for a considerable degree of flexibility and integration of several disciplines. The change of name in the revised curriculum was to ensure that Bachelor of Real Estate is in tandem with similar programmes offered worldwide that are using the term “Real Estate” to describe their course programmes. The current revision is aimed at ensuring that the curriculum conforms to the guidelines and regulations set out by the Commission for University Education (CUE) as well as requirements and standards set out by the Directorate of Quality Assurance of the University of Nairobi.
Philosophy
The Real Estate Bachelor’s degree program is designed to meet an ever increasing need and challenges in property valuation, management and development of real estate in response to the economic and social aspirations envisaged in Kenya vision 2030 blue print that seeks to transform Kenya into a middle income economy through efficient use, development and management of the land resource.
Rationale
The Bachelor of Real Estate degree programme seeks to train professionals who are registrable by the Valuers Registration Board (VRB) and other relevant professional bodies in the Real estate sector and the built environment.
Objectives
The objective of the Real Estate degree programme is to create, develop and supply well trained and knowledgeable professionals to both private and public sectors who have expertise in the fields of valuation, property management, Land management and policy, building maintenance and housing administration and policy.
Schedule of Intakes
The Department admits new students at the beginning of every academic calendar year (which is usually September)
